Sensei Gregg Skoryk

Sensei Gregg Skoryk, 5th Dan, began his training in Shotokan in 1980 at a community centre in Hamilton, Ontario. His training in Goju began in 1986, and continues today under Sensei Wallace Platt, 9th Dan Hanshi.

Other notable trainers have included Bill Wallace, Joe Lewis, Sensei Chuck Merriman, Sensei Morio Higaonna, Sensei Fumio Demura, Sensei Don Warrner, Sensei Rick Marshall, O’Sensei Richard Kim, and Sensei Peter Urban.

Sensei Skoryk has taught and volunteered at many facilities in Waterloo, including the University of Waterloo, the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, the Kitchener-Waterloo Recreation Centre, local Elementary and Secondary Schools, and for two years he taught Tai Chi at the Waterloo Adult Recreation Centre.

Sensei Skoryk has had the privilege of competing and demonstrating all over the world. He has competed in international tournaments in New York, Mexico, Costa Rica and all throughout Southern Ontario. He has demonstrated at the SkyDome in Toronto before both Blue Jays and Argonauts Games, and performed Tai Chi for "TVO”. He also appeared in "The Masters of Self-Defence” performance at Massey Hall in Toronto, as well as appearing on T.V.’s Breakfast Television.

In 2004 Sensei Skoryk Had the good fortune to visit China and to train in such places as WuDang Mountain at the Purple Dragon Temple, the north and south Shaolin Temples, Hong Kong, The Wushu Centre Fuzhou, Bejing, and at the Great Wall.

In the future, Sensei Skoryk will continue his training, growing and evolving within the vocation that he loves and the exciting and harmonious life that he has made for himself.
